Regional network 110 kV

Strong backbone for electricity transmission

Security of supply in four regions

Herrfors Nät-Verkko maintains and develops the 110 kilovolt (kV) regional network to ensure security of supply in Ostrobothnia, Southern Ostrobothnia, Central Ostrobothnia, and Northern Ostrobothnia.

Our regional network connects:

  • Transmission system operator Fingrid
  • Local distribution network companies
  • Renewable energy production plants (wind, solar, hydro)
  • Large industrial electricity users

Scope of the regional network::

  • About 400 km of 110 kV power lines
  • 37 substations
  • Operating area extends from Vaasa to the Jakobstad and Kokkola regions and to the surroundings of Alavieska and Ylivieska

Development of regional network

We build and develop the network in the long term, taking into account customer needs and the growth of renewable energy

What is a power line area?

For 110 kV power lines, a so-called line area is reserved, to which we have usage rights. This allows the placement of line structures and also restricts other uses of the area.

The line area consists of:

  • An open line corridor
  • Border zones on both sides where tree height is limited

Width varies depending on the structure and voltage level of the line.

Use of the power line area

You may move and hike in the area, but for electrical safety reasons, the following examples are prohibited:

  • Storage or loading of goods
  • Making fires or having barbecue sites
  • Excavation work without permission

If you are unsure, contact us and request a statement from us.

Maintenance and upkeep

We maintain the network with regular inspections and clearings.

  • Line corridors are cleared on average every 5 years mechanically or with a clearing saw.
  • Trees in border zones are managed every 10–25 years, either by felling or with helicopter sawing.

No chemical vegetation control is used.

Can you connect to the regional network?

Yes, but connection to the regional network is primarily relevant for large electricity users or producers. Connection possibilities and terms are determined on a case-by-case basis.

Connection terms and price lists are available, and we are happy to assist you with planning.

Terms

We use conditions recommended by the Energy Industry and approved by the authorities:

In addition, we apply:

Prices and charges

Network Service Fees

Charges are based on transmission grid fees and electricity transmitted.

Planning activities in the power line area?

If you plan to build, dig, or carry out other activities in or near the power line area, request a statement from us in advance. Include:

  • What you plan to do
  • Location (address, map attachment)
  • Any plans/maps
  • Schedule
  • Your contact details

Note! The building restriction area normally extends to about 25 meters from the power line. You will always need a statement if you are planning to build near a power line.
