Principal Designer
We are looking for a Principal Designer – a key role in building the electricity grid of the future
Do you want to help develop an electricity grid that meets future demands? At Herrfors Nät-Verkko, we are looking for a highly experienced Principal Designer to take responsibility for the overall technical development of the distribution network.
In this role, you will directly influence what our regional electricity network will look like in 5–10 years – and ensure it operates reliably, efficiently, and sustainably in the future. This is a hybrid position.

What does the role involve?
As Principal Designer, you act as a technical expert and guide within our planning function. You are responsible together with your team for the overall development of the network and guide planning according to unified principles.
Your key responsibilities include:

You are responsible together with your team for the long-term (5–10 years) development planning of the electricity distribution network

You identify investment needs and provide technical insight to support decision-making

You define technical solutions for investment projects and evaluate alternatives

You are responsible for network design principles and ensure its safety, quality, and capacity

You assess the impact of future loads and generation on the network

You guide planning, ensure technical quality, and act as an expert support in projects
Your role in the organization
You act as the technical lead within the planning function and guide:

The role combines expertise, holistic thinking, and hands-on development work.
What we expect from you
Education and experience

MSc (Engineering) or BSc (Engineering) in electrical power engineering or similar

Strong experience in distribution network planning and dimensioning
Skills

Experience with network analysis tools (e.g. Trimble NIS, ArcGIS)

Good understanding of distribution network structures and design principles

Knowledge of electrical safety and voltage quality

Understanding of future loads (e.g. EVs, heat pumps, distributed generation)

Analytical mindset and ability to understand complex systems

Strong expertise in leading and guiding the team’s technical work

Where will you work?
We offer a flexible hybrid working model where your main office can be in Pietarsaari, Ylivieska, or Vaasa. You will primarily work where it best supports you and your work.
In practice, this means extensive remote work opportunities. On-site presence is expected for team meetings, monthly meetings, training sessions, and other occasions agreed with your manager.
