Disturbances and outages

On this page, you can see current power outages, planned interruptions, and instructions on what to do in the event of an outage.

What to do if the power goes out?

Most power outages last only a short while. However, if the outage is prolonged, it is important to know how to act.

Do this if the power is cut:

  • Check the fuses and your neighbors’ lights – is it a wider fault?
  • Switch off household appliances such as the stove and washing machine – leave one light on to indicate when the power returns.
  • Do not touch power lines – report to Herrfors if you see any damage.
  • Check Herrfors outage map and register for the SMS service.

WHEN AN OUTAGE OCCURS UNEXPECTEDLY

Checklist

A neutral fault can be life-threatening. If you suspect it, do not use electricity – contact a professional immediately.

Water supply can be cut off quickly. Store drinking water and use water sparingly.

Heating will stop working in most homes. Close doors and windows, use a fireplace or other backup heating sources.

The toilet only works once without water. In an emergency, use a plastic bag and dispose of the waste with mixed waste.

Stay informed via a battery-powered radio. Public broadcasting transmits official announcements even during a power outage.

WHY IS A NEUTRAL FAULT DANGEROUS?

Recognize a neutral fault

When power lines are broken, for example due to heavy trees, this can cause a so-called neutral fault. A neutral fault is dangerous and must be immediately corrected by professionals.

OUTAGE INFORMATION TO YOUR PHONE

Subscribe to disturbance notifications by SMS

You will receive an SMS from Herrfors NÄT-Verk about both planned and unplanned power outages.

Standard compensation

For long power outages, standard compensation is paid. According to the Electricity Market Act, the electricity user is entitled to standard compensation when they have been continuously without electricity for at least 12 hours. The amount of the standard compensation depends on the user’s annual network service fee and the continuous duration of the outage.
