Sustainability
At Herrfors Nät-Verkko we invest in modern solutions and long-term choices that make a real difference for our customers, our region and our society. By combining smart technology and energy-efficient solutions, we reduce climate impact and strengthen the security of electricity supply in the region.

Our key sustainability topics

Environmental responsibility
Our impact on the climate land use and material recycling.

Social responsibility
Local engagement, employee wellbeing, and a reliable power grid.

Corporate governance
An open and responsible organization.
Herrfors group’s value chain
Herrfors group consists of several companies: Herrfors, Herrfors Nät-Verkko and production companies Perhonjoki and Katternö Kraft. The illustration of the group’s value chain is divided into electricity and district heating production. Input (the part of the value chain that takes place before the company’s own operations) of our own operations are renewable energy sources, fuels, materials & components, services and maintenance, which are refined within our own operations.
Herrfors has its own electricity production through hydropower, as well as its own balancing resources. Perhonjoki/Katternö Kraft produces electricity via its own production facilities but also receives electricity through our owner companies. The electricity is physically delivered to customers via the electricity grid (output: the part of the value chain that takes place after the company’s operations). Herrfors Nät-Verkko is responsible for a specific grid area in the region, including both regional and distribution networks. The financial transaction is handled via the electricity market (Nord Pool and Fingrid/eSett) and Herrfors’ electricity sales to the end customer.
Herrfors has its own district heating production via an electric boiler and reserve heating plants. Perhonjoki’s district heating production consists of heat generation via owner companies as well as through our own facilities. The district heating is physically delivered to the end customer via the Herrfors district heating network and the financial transaction is managed by Herrfors’ district heating sales.

The UN’s goals for Sustainable Development
Agenda 2030 consists of 17 global goals for sustainable development, aimed at ending poverty, combating climate change and creating peaceful as well as inclusive societies. Herrfors group’s sustainability efforts are closely aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
We have reviewed all 17 Sustainable Development Goals and identified the four goals where we believe our impact is greatest:

Affordable and clean energy
General description: Everyone should have access to safe, reliable, and affordable energy no matter where in the world they live!
Climate action
General description: Tackling one of the greatest challenges of our time, climate change.

Industry, innovation and infrastructure
General description: Building resilient infrastructure, promoting inclusive and sustainable industrialization, and encouraging innovation and forward-thinking.
Decent work and economic growth
General description: Everyone should have the opportunity to work under fair conditions while promoting sustainable and inclusive economic growth.

What we do: By developing and maintaining a reliable electricity grid, we contribute to a secure and sustainable energy supply.
We strive to create a safe working environment where development is possible, while also ensuring strong business ethics and reliable supply chains.
