Decommissioning of usage site

Decommissioning a usage site means removing an individual electricity consumption point with a meter from use. This may relate to, for example, the demolition of a building, the end of electricity consumption, or rearrangements of property electricity systems.

Decommissioning a usage site is not the same as terminating an electricity connection – within one connection, there can be multiple usage sites, of which a single one can be removed without terminating the entire connection. 

Separate this: usage site ≠ connection.

  • Usage site = a meter-specific consumption point that can be decommissioned. 
  • Connection = a physical link to the electricity grid that may include one or more usage sites. 

Different situations

Multiple usage sites under the same connection (e.g. multi-meter panel)

A single usage site can be decommissioned without removing or maintaining the entire connection.

  • Typical e.g. in housing companies where some spaces are no longer in use. 

Other usage sites remain unchanged.

One usage site under the whole connection.

If the connection has only one usage site, decommissioning requires:

  • Either: The connection is placed under maintenance (Link) to retain connection rights 
  • Or: The connection is terminated (Link), meaning the connection rights end completely

Can a usage point be removed without removing the meter?

No. Decommissioning a usage point always requires the physical removal of the metering device.
Can the removal be done remotely if the meter is remotely read?

No. Even remotely read meters must be physically removed on-site.
What if it’s the only usage point in the connection?

You can choose either to terminate the connection or place it into maintenance mode – customer service can help you choose the right option.
When should a usage point be decommissioned?

For example, when a building is demolished, the space is no longer in use, or metering is no longer necessary.
Why is maintenance needed if it’s the only usage point?

Because without the usage point, the connection lacks a meter and is inactive. Maintenance preserves the right to the connection for future use.
What’s the difference between usage point decommissioning and connection termination?

Usage point decommissioning applies only to the metering point. Connection termination ends the right to connect to the electricity network.

How to Request Decommissioning of a Usage Point

The decommissioning is always carried out via an on-site technician visit, as the metering device must be physically removed. Remote decommissioning is not possible.
