Electricity saving tips
At Herrfors, we focus on sustainability, safety, and local responsibility. We don’t just provide electricity – we help you use it more wisely. On our website, you will find practical energy-saving tips, up-to-date spot prices, and digital tools that help you reduce your electricity consumption without compromising home comfort.
We believe that small everyday changes can make a big difference – for your wallet, the environment, and the future of the entire electricity network. Welcome to making smart energy choices every day, all year round.

Smart ways that really make a difference
With small adjustments at home, you can reduce electricity consumption, save money, and lower your carbon footprint without compromising quality of life. Start small and let the effects grow. Together, we are building a more sustainable energy system.
Lower the temperature by 1–2 °C – each degree can reduce heating costs by 5–7%.
Recommendation: 20 °C in the living room, 18–19 °C in the bedroom. Less heating reduces the need for electricity production – especially in winter when fossil backup power may otherwise be used.
Draft increases heating needs. Sealing strips and heavy curtains keep the heat inside.
Less heat loss = smaller carbon footprint and more stable indoor temperature.
Avoid keeping windows open continuously in winter. Ventilate quickly with cross-draught.
Smart ventilation reduces heat loss and grid load.
Use a timer or thermostat when you are not at home.
Lowering the temperature by 2–3 °C for eight hours a day can reduce energy consumption by up to 15%. This supports so-called “load shifting” – an important way to enable wider use of renewable energy.
A 10-minute shower consumes about 1 kWh. If you shorten the time, consumption is halved.
Less hot water saves both energy and water and reduces emissions.
Most clothes are clean at 30–40 °C.
Washing at 40 °C uses up to 50% less electricity than at 60 °C.
Clothes also wear out less, reducing textile waste.
Programs take longer but consume less electricity and water.
Savings in both money and the environment – and appliances last longer.
Avoid running half-empty machines.
Fewer runs = less energy, water, and detergent.
+5 °C for the fridge, –18 °C for the freezer is ideal.
Unnecessarily cold settings increase electricity consumption without extra benefit.
Ice build-up acts as insulation and increases consumption.
A clean freezer consumes less and lasts longer – saving energy and resources.
LEDs use up to 90% less electricity than incandescent bulbs and last 10–15 times longer.
Energy savings and less waste – smart both ways.
A small action with a big impact.
Less unnecessary consumption – especially important during dark winter months.
Especially useful in hallways and storage rooms.
Lighting only when needed reduces unnecessary electricity use.
Standby mode can account for 5–10% of household electricity use.
Small currents add up – use a power strip with a switch.
Charge only as much as you need.
Longer battery life and less electricity and electronic waste.
A simple way to save and sleep better.
Reduces constant power load – especially useful in apartment buildings.
Schedule charging for cheap and quiet hours.
Electricity produced at night is often renewable – lower carbon footprint.
Same with sauna, washing machine, and tumble dryer use after 20:00.
Spreading consumption reduces peak demand and supports system stability.
See hourly electricity use, identify peaks, and make changes.
Awareness increases sustainable behavior – permanently.
Example: “I want to reduce my consumption by 10% this winter.”
Make saving a motivating challenge and increase your climate awareness.

Spot prices and consumption
Electricity prices vary throughout the day. By planning your electricity use for the most favorable times, you can save money while also helping to balance the load on the grid. Use the sauna, washing machine, and dishwasher when electricity is cheapest – usually in the evening or at night. With the Herrfors app, you can also schedule your electric car charging to the lowest-price hours of the day completely automatically.
You can find today’s spot prices on our website, in the Herrfors app, and in the MyHerrfors service.
