Cable marking
Are you planning excavation work in our network area?
Before starting excavation work, it is important to find out where the underground cables and district heating pipes in the area are located. The work must always be carried out with special care when there are live cables or heating pipes nearby.

Why order cable marking?
We can tell you the location of the cables and pipes to ensure safe working.
- Damaging an underground cable can cause a life-threatening hazard and power outages.
- Excavation work must be planned and carried out in accordance with safety regulations.

Service content
- Cable marking is free of charge when ordered at least 4 working days before the start of excavation.
- If necessary, we also provide map material for the area. Please note that the maps are indicative – the field marking shows the exact location.
- Express marking (order for the same day or the next two working days) is a paid service according to the service price list.
- The marking is valid for 2 weeks from the marking date.
- In alarm and fault situations, the costs for cable marking are determined on a case-by-case basis according to actual costs.
Checklist for the excavator
The safety distance to the cable is at least 1 metre from the side of the cable.
- If cables remain within the excavation area, they must be de-energised before starting work – in that case, order an outage arrangement (see below).
- If the cable tape becomes visible during excavation, stop work immediately and contact the control centre: (06) 7230 079
- If you encounter unknown cables, stop excavation and immediately contact our control centre.

Outage arrangement
Maintenance or modification work near the electricity network may require de-energisation. In such cases, the customer must order an outage arrangement from us, which will be carried out in a planned and safe manner.
When is an outage arrangement needed?
- Modification, dismantling or commissioning of an electricity connection
- Working near electric cables (for example, when cables end up under the excavation)
- Maintenance or renovation work in the immediate vicinity of the electricity network that requires de-energisation
Order and schedule
- An outage arrangement is free of charge when ordered at least 14 days before the desired date.
- For work carried out urgently or at short notice, a separate fee may be charged according to the service price list.
The outage often affects other customers as well, so ordering in time is very important.
