Standard compensation for long power outages during Storm Hannes

Storm Hannes caused widespread power outages in Herrfors Nät-Verkkos distribution area. Below we explain when customers are entitled to standard compensation under the Electricity Market Act and how the compensation is determined.

Standard compensation for long power outages

If you have been without electricity for at least 12 consecutive hours, you may be entitled to standard compensation under the Electricity Market Act.

When is standard compensation paid?

  • When the power outage lasts at least 12 hours
  • The amount of compensation depends on
    – the duration of the outage
    – your annual network service fee

Compensation based on outage duration

12–24 h → 10%
24–48 h → 25%
48–72 h → 50%
72–120 h → 100%
120–288 h → 150%
over 288 h → 200%

Good to know

  • Maximum 200% of the annual network service fee per year
  • Maximum compensation per single outage is €2000
  • The outage duration is calculated from the moment the network company becomes aware of the fault and it is safe to begin repairs

Does the customer need to apply for compensation?
