Order a new electricity connection

Do you need electricity for your new home, cottage, or construction project? This page will help you get started easily – step by step.

The process is clear and can be conveniently completed directly online.

It is recommended to start ordering the connection well in advance to ensure that electricity is available at the right time during the construction phase. On this page, we will guide you step by step through the process of ordering an electricity connection. The process is straightforward and can conveniently be completed online.

Contact us well in advance of when you’ll need electricity.

We will ask you for the necessary information for the connection and send you an offer along with an estimate of when electricity can be taken into use. The delivery of electricity to the property may take up to 6 months.

The processing of the offer takes about two weeks.

1. Request a quotation for an electricity connection

When filling in the electronic connection application, please have the following information ready:

Customer details

  • First and last name
  • Address, postal code and city
  • Phone number and email address
  • Billing address (if different from home address)
  • If necessary, details of a second customer (e.g. spouse or business partner)

Connection location

  • Street address, postal code and city of the connection
  • Property register ID

Technical details of the connection

  • Main fuse size (e.g. 3×25 A, 3×35 A, 3×50 A …)
The main fuse determines your connection’s electricity capacity, i.e. how much power you can use simultaneously. The required size depends on factors such as heating method and number of electrical appliances.
  • Intended use of the property (e.g. detached house, holiday home, business premises)
  • Heating method of the property (e.g. electricity, district heating, geothermal)
  • Estimated annual electricity consumption (kWh)
  • Any additional information about the project

2. Electricity connection agreement

We will prepare an electricity connection agreement once the quotation has been accepted. The agreement specifies the delivery terms and schedule.

The agreement will be sent by email and can be signed electronically. It defines the delivery time, connection point, connection size, price, and connection date.eed.

3. Electricity network construction

We will begin planning and obtain the necessary permits, such as excavation permits. We will then carry out the required construction work, such as cabling and installing substations.

Please note that the delivery of an electricity connection may take up to 6 months.

Start the process in good time to ensure that electricity is available when needed. The delivery time depends on several factors, such as the distance to the network and the size of the connection.

Factors affecting delivery time

When the work is completed, you will receive confirmation that the connection has been activated.

Distance to the nearest distribution transformer: The longer the distance, the longer the construction time may be.

Obtaining building and excavation permits: If the connection requires specific permits, their processing may extend the timeframe.

Electricity needs and connection size: A larger connection and specialized electricity needs (e.g. electric heating, charging an electric car) may require special measures and additional time.

Weather conditions and excavation work: Winter months may slow down excavation progress.

4. Connection readiness

When the construction work on the electricity network has been completed, connection readiness will be available at the property boundary. This means that the network is ready to be connected, but the connection has not yet been activated. Connection readiness also means that the building site is ready for the installation of the meter and the switching on of electricity.

The connection must be taken into use no later than 6 months after the connection readiness has been established, otherwise it must be placed under maintenance.

If you do not need electricity immediately, you can place the connection under maintenance, in which case the electricity supply will be cut off, but the connection will remain available.

5. Meter installation

After the connection has been delivered, you can order the installation of the meter once the meter cabinet and the property’s internal connection cable have been built and inspected for electricity connection.

Frequently asked questions

How can I check if my property is within the Herrfors Nät network area?

Use the map tool available on our website. Point to the location on the map and you will immediately see if the area is covered by our network.

How can I check the price of a connection?

The connection calculator shows the price based on the selected connection size and location. You get an instant estimate without separate contact.

How do I choose the right connection size?

The connection size is determined by the main fuse size. The appropriate size depends on the property’s intended use, heating method and number of appliances. For most detached houses, 3×25 A is sufficient.

What happens if I choose too small a connection size?

If the load is too high, fuses may trip repeatedly. In that case, the connection size must be increased, which may cause additional costs.

Can I enlarge my connection later?

Yes. It is possible to enlarge the connection by submitting a modification application.

Who can I contact if I am unsure about the correct connection size?

You can always contact our technical customer service. We will help you size the connection according to your needs.
