Energy community

An energy community offers the possibility to share renewable electricity, such as solar power, between different parties in, for example, a housing company or a commercial property. This enables maximum utilization of electricity production and reduces electricity bills.

What is an energy community?

An energy community is a group of electricity users located within the same electricity connection who share jointly produced renewable electricity. Often this involves:

  • A housing company with a shared solar power plant
  • A commercial property where different tenants use the shared production

How does an energy community work?

  1. The solar power plant is installed for the property’s common use.
  2. The participants agree on allocation rules: how the production is divided (e.g. by percentages).
  3. The distribution network company takes care of measuring the production and allocating it to the different users.
  4. The benefits are visible on the electricity bill: as a smaller amount of purchased electricity and a lower network service fee.

What is required?

  • The parties forming the energy community must be connected to the same connection.
  • All parties must have remotely readable meters.
  • A written agreement on the energy community (link to electronic form) must be made and submitted to us.
  • Energy production and consumption are measured accurately – we take care of the allocation of the production on a calculated basis.

How do I apply to establish an energy community?

An energy community can be established in an electricity connection that has at least one production usage point and at least two consumption usage points.
An agreement on the establishment of the community must be drawn up before it is reported to the network company. The notification must be submitted at least 14 days before the desired start date of the community.

Is an electrical contractor required?

Yes, especially if it concerns the connection of the solar power plant or changes in measurements.

Can the allocation ratios be changed later?

Yes, but the changes must be reported separately in writing.
