New energy solutions – information and options

The world is changing, and so are the ways of producing and using energy. On this page, we have compiled key solutions that help you use energy more efficiently and responsibly – whether it is electricity production, consumption management, or clean transportation.

We do not sell or install these products, but we want to provide you with clear information about the different possibilities.

Solar power – your own electricity from the sun

Solar panels enable electricity production on your own property, for example on the roof of a detached house or a farm. Surplus electricity can be sold to the grid, and the system should be sized to match your own consumption.

  • Suitable for detached houses, terraced houses, apartment buildings, and business premises
  • Enables partial or complete electricity self-sufficiency
  • An investment that pays for itself over the years

Solar panels are offered by many electricity sector companies, hardware stores, and companies specializing in energy solutions.

Electric car charging – at home and at the workplace

As electric cars become more common, having your own charging solution is increasingly important. Charging equipment is available both for fixed installation and in portable versions.

  • Suitable for electric and plug-in hybrid cars
  • Charging power varies according to needs (e.g. 3.7–22 kW)
  • Smart charging can optimise the charging time according to electricity prices
  • A charging station may require a change in the size of the electricity connection or alternatively dynamic load management
  • You can monitor the load on your electricity connection in the MyHerrfors online service.

For charging solutions, it is advisable to contact your electrical contractor.

Heat pumps – efficient heating for different needs

A heat pump uses outdoor air, ground, or bodies of water to heat and cool a property.

  • Air source heat pump: suitable for supplementary heating and cooling
  • Ground source heat pump: energy-efficient solution for heating the entire property
  • Air-to-water heat pump: a good option for hydronic systems
  • Modern heat pumps can operate together with smart home solutions (for example, controlled according to spot electricity prices)

Heat pumps are sold and installed by HVAC and energy sector contractors.

Smart energy use – monitor, control, optimise

With new technology, you can gain a better understanding of your electricity consumption and influence it.

  • Consumption monitoring (e.g. hourly level) (link P1 port)
  • Smart controls for heating, lighting, and load management
  • Dynamic control of electricity load based on spot electricity prices

Technology providers offer various consumption monitoring and control services. Also, check out how our energy meter works.

Renewable energy and emission-free electricity

Many energy companies offer customers the option to choose the origin of their electricity. More and more people are choosing an electricity contract based on renewable sources – such as wind, solar, or hydropower.

  • No emissions during the production phase
  • Guarantees of origin ensure the source of the electricity
  • A responsible choice for the good of the climate

The content of electricity contracts and guarantees of origin varies between suppliers.

Batteries and energy storage – energy when you need it

Batteries and energy storage systems offer a solution for storing electricity. This allows you to use, for example, the solar electricity you produce more efficiently, as the energy can be used even when the sun is not shining.

  • Suitable for detached houses, farms, and businesses
  • Improves self-sufficiency and energy security during power outages
  • Enables optimisation of electricity consumption by storing electricity when it is cheaper and using it when prices rise
  • Compatible with solar power systems and smart energy management solutions

Batteries are offered by many energy sector operators as well as electrical contractors, who can help dimension the solution according to your needs.
